Remembering Pastor John
After worship on Sunday, January 22, the Hokuloa Ohana had  a Party of Remembrance for our Pastor Emeritus, Rev. John P. Hoover. Pastor John’s instructions stated that upon his death, he did not want a Memorial Service. Instead, he wanted a party where people could gather to celebrate with joy and laughter.

Therefore on, Sunday, January 22, Hokuloa did party!  Pastor John was a masterful cook and baker. Each year he filled his freezer with cookies and then sent them to family and friends.  We enjoyed Pastor John’s cookies straight from his Tennessee freezer to Hokuloa.

Pastor John worked for over 20 years to compensate for past encroachments on the original church lot in Puako. Shortly after John's retirement in 2016 the shoreline lot east of Hokuloa Church, the site of the former Puako School was added to the church lease.  The beautiful view of Puako Bay and the mountains beyond that exists today is one of John's legacies to the church and community. After the party, we spread his ashes on the shoreline near the church.
